Breeding Fawn and Black Pugs. Mutts.
Never breed black pugs to fawns. Nothing is ever accomplished from these breedings. Crossing colors will not improove the pigment of a fawn, head or substance on black dogs or coat and color on either.
The color genes behind fawn and black pugs are blue, black, liver, yellow, brown, white, silver fawn, tan and apricot-fawn. Quite a combination, isn't it? Everyone considering breeding pugs should study the basic coat color genes in dogs to learn how indiscriminate breeding can destroy the color genes in pugs. Improper breeding has just about wiped out our silvers: which color is next?
...If you breed your fawn to black you can luck out and have two clear black puppies, but about the rest of the litter? Would you just sell them off to someone for a pet? Or-heaven forbid-use the dye bottle on the pugs and then hide them after you are through showing them. Breeding them will certainly make things even worse.
Washed out coat, rusty colored hairs (brindles) on black pugs, smutty fawn coat, white toenails, mask not that black as you you would like. Pugs should be double coated, and in due to crossing fawn to blacks-now too many fawn pugs single coated-is this what we want in our pugs?
Only pure, black-to-black or fawn-to-fawn will protect quality of fawns and improve quality of black pugs.

Puggles, Buggs & Other Mutts
I do not support nor condone the intentional breeding of mixed breed,
"designer" dogs nor do I have any brindle or albino Pugs or blue Frenchies.
A "breed" has characteristics that are defined and can be reproduced generation after generation. Simply crossing two purebreds and giving the offspring a cute,
fancy name does not produce a "breed." Producing a stable new breed of dog requires perhaps 25-30 years of extensive commitment from many people all working together. It involves years of study and planning to select the proper dogs to produce a breed for which there is a true and demonstrated need.
Mixed breed dogs are not automatically more healthy than the component breeds. When breeding any two parents you are just as likely to get all the bad characteristics of the two as you are all the good qualities. There is no way to predict exactly what characteristics will be produced in any mixed breed puppies. Part of the benefit of breeding pure breed dogs is knowing what the characteristics and qualities of the dogs produced will be.
Mixed breed dogs are just that and no matter what fancy name is given to them or how much they cost, they are still just mixed breed dogs.
If you are considering adding a mixed breed dog to your home please consider adopting one from your local rescue or shelter. Click on one of the following links to adopt a rescue.
