USEFULL TIPS TO
CORRECT PUG EAR FORM
AKC STANDARD: The pug ears are thin, small, soft, like black velvet. There are two kinds-the
"rose" and the "button." Preference is given to the latter.
Clarification: The ears should be set wide on the head. The fold of the "button" ear is level with
the top of the skull. When alert, the ear shold not drop below the corner of the eye. The "rose" ear in the Pug appears smaller and is folded with the front edge against the side of the head. The inner burr should not show as it does in a Bulldogs. Flying "button" ears are not "rose" ears. The "rose"ear small and neat and tends to give the head smaller, more rounded look. The size and shape of the ear should be in a balance with the overall size and shape of the head. Both ears should be both of the same type.
Undesirable: Flying "button" ears, light colored ears, ears set too high or too low, ears too thick or too large.
You can correct your dog ears with taping them in a age after 5 months old. Why after 5 months old, because usually up to this age, after all teeth changed, all ears already should have their original form. Leave tape on for no longer than one week, then carefully cut it along the front where the folded sides meet. Be careful not to cut the ear. Leave tape on, it'll usually fall off in a day or two. The tape you choose has a great bearing on the success of the procedure. The "ouchless" kind is pretty well useless and falls off almost before it can be applied. I like the cloth tape that is really sticky, either white or the brown stuff. The inside of the ear might become a bit sore, which is the reason the tape should not be left on for more than a week. If the procedure has to be repeated, wait a few weeks.

IS A PUG RIGHT DOG FOR YOU?
Before you consider getting a pug, ask yourself what you expect from having this kind of dog. Here are a few Characteristics of Pugs:
*extremely cute, their whole live
*non aggressive
*because of the short nose they are limited in long runs and even walks in the hot weather
*sensitive to cold and hot temperature
*they like your attention most of the time and they will do sometimes very strange and funny
looking things to get your attention. Some say pugs are little clowns, they show off to make you
laugh and love them even more.
*they can snore when they sleep, can be loud considering their size
*they will try to hypnotise you with their big and sad eyes, so that you give them more food
(that's why there are so many overweight pugs). People with a very soft heart might overfeed their pug, which leads to health problems and limits their ability to walk and run even more
*they are hyper, a pug puppy is a "Live Wire".They need about 2 years to grow up and even then, it still needs around 3 more years until they become somewhat sedate.
*they love children (must have something to do with their size)
*they aren't as easy to train as many other breeds.
*they shed, despite their short fur
*they come in fawn or black
In summary, Pugs are companion dogs, they want your attention and to be with you all the time.
What a pug can give you is unlimited affection and Loyality. They crave your approval, so pugs will try to do almost anything to please you.
